The City of Houston Office of Emergency Management Closely Monitoring and Preparing for Cold Weather

HOUSTON – The City of Houston Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is closely monitoring forecasts for the upcoming cold weather and taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

“Based on the forecast, we do not expect this cold front to resemble the winter storm 2021. However, we are working with our partners to ensure resources are in place should conditions change. Our priority remains to ensure the community is ready and to minimize disruptions,” said OEM Director Brian Mason.

In preparation for the colder temperatures, we ask all residents to follow these simple steps to protect the Four P’s:
People: Dress warmly, stay inside when possible, and check on neighbors, especially the elderly and those with special needs.
Pets: Bring pets indoors or ensure they have a warm, safe place to shelter.
Pipes: Protect exposed pipes by insulating them.
Plants: Bring sensitive plants inside or cover them to protect against frost.
The City of Houston is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our roadways and is actively coordinating with our partners to treat them as necessary. Currently, no warming centers are being activated, as the forecasted weather is not expected to reach the threshold for such measures. However, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide timely updates to the community as conditions evolve.
