Pallone Hails FDA’s Proposed Nicotine Product Standard
Washington, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today applauding the Food and Drug Administration’s newly proposed nicotine product standard, which would limit the amount of nicotine that can be used in tobacco products to minimally addictive or non-addictive levels:
“This is a game-changing proposal that will save millions of lives if finalized. We have long known that Big Tobacco uses nicotine to get people hooked on their products and keep them hooked, which is why they’ve steadily increased the amount of nicotine in their products over the years.
“Establishing a maximum level of nicotine in cigarettes and other combustible tobacco products would help prevent people from developing nicotine addiction and stop a cycle of consistent tobacco usage that leads to tobacco-related disease and death. It is a transformative public health proposal, and I urge the incoming Trump Administration to finalize it. Millions of American lives depend upon it.”
