Ranking Member Lofgren Blasts Trump Administration for Gutting Diversity Efforts Across Federal Government

(WASHINGTON, DC) — In his first hours as President, Donald Trump has released a series of sweeping executive orders that dismantle federal efforts to support diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“Trump’s dismantling of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across the federal government is just plain wrong,” said Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren. “For years, we have been working to create a STEM workforce that more accurately represents the rich diversity and intellectual capacity of our nation. This effort is former Science Committee Chairwoman, Eddie Bernice Johnson’s, legacy. Thanks to her and my colleagues—including every single Republican on the Science Committee at the time—we passed a multitude of bills aimed at creating opportunities in STEM for ALL Americans. This includes young people from rural America of all races and ethnicities, as they too often face countless obstacles to participation in the STEM workforce, no matter how smart and hard-working they are. These bills later became law as part of the CHIPS and Science Act—a bill even MAGA Republicans celebrate and take credit for back in their home districts. Trump has made hypocrites of the Republicans who joined us in spearheading diversity and equity efforts and now watch as he rips the rug out from under American progress.”
