Houston Mourns Loss of Active Duty Firefighter

Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz grieves with the family of active member Engineer Operator/Paramedic Troy Steinberg, who passed away January 23.
EOP Steinberg entered the Houston Fire Department in December 1990, and served 34 years, most recently assigned to station 83. An Engineer Operator/Paramedic is assigned to a Medic Unit, which provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) for prehospital care.
“It’s a tragedy that we lost EOP Steinberg as he entered the phase down program and was looking forward to retirement,” said Muñoz. “He was preparing to join his family in Maryland before his untimely passing. My heart is with his wife, Kathi, his family, and his firefighter family.”
During his career, EOP Steinberg was assigned to stations 68, 73, 78, and 83. Days after his passing, family and friends gathered for a memorial event that was previously planned as a retirement party.
The Firefighter Support Network has been assisting the Steinberg family since his passing. Funeral arrangements are pending.
