First of Three Injured Firefighters Discharged from Hospital

Firefighter Jonathan Guzman was discharged Friday afternoon from Memorial Hermann’s Dunn Burn Unit. Guzman rang the ceremonial bell and was joined by firefighters from his district as he left the building. During his hospital stay, Guzman required multiple surgeries. He was in good spirits and stated he was eager to get home to his family.

“I am so proud of Guzman and the guys as they continue their recovery,” said Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz. “Throughout this incident, they have kept their mind on the goal, and are all making good progress. Please keep them all close to your hearts in the coming weeks. I send my deepest appreciation to the folks at Memorial Hermann for their expertise and hospitality.”

Senior Captain Edward Escamilla and Firefighter Darren Jones remain in the Dunn Burn Unit. They have been overwhelmed by the show of support from firefighters and the community at large.
