La Porte Police Posthumously Dedicate Firearms Training Center in Honor of Former Chief Ditrich
In a heartfelt tribute to a dedicated leader and public servant, the La Porte Police Department has officially dedicated its firearms training center in honor of the late Police Chief Douglas J. Ditrich, who passed away in January 2024.
On February 10, 2025, La Porte Police Chief Scott Pullig, alongside Chief Ditrich’s family, fellow officers, city officials, and community members, unveiled a commemorative plaque outside the training facility, honoring Chief Ditrich’s legacy in the department he served for over 26 years.
“Chief Ditrich was a true leader who always put our community first, guiding us with integrity, strength, and compassion,” said Chief Pullig. “While he may no longer be with us, his impact on this department and this community will never be forgotten.”
Chief Douglas J. Ditrich dedicated his life to the service of the La Porte community, beginning his law enforcement career with the City on December 29, 1997, following his completion of the police academy at the University of Houston – Downtown.
Over his distinguished career, he held numerous roles and ranks within the department, earning accolades such as the 2019 Manager of the Year and multiple commendations for his outstanding service.
The dedication of the firearms training center serves as a lasting tribute to Chief Ditrich’s unwavering commitment to public safety and the La Porte Police Department. His leadership, mentorship, and dedication to the well-being of the officers and citizens of La Porte will forever be remembered.
