Beaumont will not Deploy Firefighters to California at this Time

BEAUMONT, TX – The state of Texas is deploying resources to assist in the devastating California wildfires. The Governor has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management and Texas A&M Forest Service to deploy 135 firefighters, emergency personnel, and more than 45 fire engines and other emergency equipment to assist in fighting the fires.

At this time, the City of Beaumont has not received a direct request to send resources. The City will not voluntarily deploy resources at this time to ensure the safety of our own citizens during a time when fires are more prevalent. During the latest cold front, our community suffered two fire fatalities. Fire Chief Earl White says his top priority is always the safety of our local citizens first.

The chief adds, “Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with the citizens and first responders in the path of the fires. Beaumont has deployed teams to assist during past disasters in California, and while we have not received an official request to respond at this time, if the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) makes a request that comes to us through the Texas A&M Forest Service, the needs of the City will be evaluated and a decision will be coordinated with City staff as to whether to deploy resources at that time.”
