City Council Approved an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 15,760 to prescribe the number of positions and titles in the classification “Service Group – Fire”
On Thursday, the City Council Approved an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 15,760 to prescribe the number of positions and titles in the classification “Service Group – Fire”
Civil service law requires the City Council to provide for the classification of all Firefighters and to establish the number of positions in each classification. This proposed ordinance updates Ordinance No. 15,760 by renaming certain, existing classification titles to align with industry standards as determined by the Fire Chief. This change does not change the authorized number of positions nor does it change the duties of the renamed roles. The classifications to be renamed are:
Existing Classification | New Classification |
Fire Battalion Chief | Fire Battalion Chief/Division Chief |
Fire Lieutenant | Fire Captain |
Fire Equipment Operator | Fire Engineer |
The positions will be allocated as follows:
Classification | Existing Number of Positions | New Number of Positions |
Fire Chief | 1 | 1 |
Assistant Fire Chief | 4 | 4 |
Fire Battalion Chief/Division Chief | 6 | 6 |
Fire Captain | 33 | 33 |
Fire Engineer | 25 | 25 |
Firefighter | 98 | 98 |
Non-Fire Paramedic | 1 | 1 |
Total | 168 | 168 |
