City Council approved the Engineering Services Agreement with Binkley & Barfield, Inc., for the Baytown Area Water Authority Backwash and Decant Pump Replacement Project

On Thursday, the City Council approved the Engineering Services Agreement with Binkley & Barfield, Inc., for the Baytown Area Water Authority Backwash and Decant Pump Replacement Project.

This proposed ordinance approves the engineering services agreement with Binkley & Barfield, Inc., for the Baytown Area Water Authority Backwash and Decant Pump Replacement Project. The current backwash and decant pump station pumps need replacement at the Baytown Area Water Authority (” BAWA”) Fritz Lanham Water Plant, located at 7425 Thompson Road, Baytown, Texas. The proposed project will replace the existing decant pump station and install two new backwash pumps and butterfly valves.

It was identified that both the decant pump station and backwash will require replacement at the BAWA Fritz Lanham Water Plant. The existing decant pump station was built in 1978 and is now in need of upgrade and replacement. BAWA staff have reported issues with the pumps, such as overheating and mechanical failure. Binkley & Barfield, Inc., has recommended the replacement of the pumps to increase the capacity of the decant pump station and backwash pumps.

The agreement with Binkley & Barfield, Inc. and BAWA is for preliminary engineering, final design, bid phase, and construction phase services, which will provide tasks and services to take the project to final completion.  The main tasks are as follows: surveying, electrical design, structural design, mechanical design, bid and construction phase services.  The total cost of the agreement is $360,314.00.

This agreement was approved at the Baytown Area Water Authority meeting held on January 30, 2025.
