Moolenaar Announces Senior Staff Hires for Select Committee on China
WASHINGTON DC — Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) today issued the following statement announcing senior staff hires for the 119th Congress:
“The Chinese Communist Party represents the most complex and significant national security challenge of our time, and it is crucial that we continue to build on the tremendous progress the Committee made in the 118th Congress. Since I assumed leadership of the Select Committee, we’ve taken important steps to address the CCP’s malign influence, and these key hires are critical to supporting and advancing that work. Margaret, Alyssa, and David bring deep expertise and experience to the Select Committee, and I’m confident their contributions will strengthen our bipartisan efforts to better protect the American people and preserve American values in the years ahead.”
New Hires:
- Margaret Harker will serve as the General Counsel, leading the Select Committee’s legal team. Harker joins the Committee from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, where she served as the Deputy Chief Counsel for Investigations. Prior to her time in the House, she served at the Department of Justice—as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia and the Eastern District of Tennessee, and as a Trial Attorney in the Department’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section.
- Alyssa Pettus will serve as the Communications Director, leading the Select Committee’s communications team. Pettus joins the Committee from Leidos, where she held various communications leadership roles including Director of External Communications and Director of Communications for the Leidos Dynetics team. Prior to her time at Leidos, she served as Press Secretary for Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL).
Key Promotion:
- David Russell from Chairman Moolenaar’s personal office will join the committee staff full time as Senior Advisor for Policy and Communications.
These hires and promotion further highlight Chairman Moolenaar and the Committee’s dedication to combat the increasing threat China poses to America. Dave Hanke will continue to serve as Staff Director for the Select Committee.
