Pallone on TikTok Executive Order

Washington, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today on President Trump’s executive order delaying enforcement of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act for 75 days:

“I have serious concerns with President Trump’s executive order because he is circumventing national security legislation passed by an overwhelming bipartisan majority in Congress.

“I do not believe ByteDance has taken any real actions to sell TikTok so far. It’s time for ByteDance and Communist China to get serious about selling the app so it can remain available in the United States. ByteDance has had 270 days to sell TikTok to an American company and it’s disgraceful they spent all that time playing political games rather than working to find a buyer.

“The truth is Communist China doesn’t want to sell TikTok because they don’t want to lose their chokehold on a treasure trove of Americans’ sensitive personal information, which undermines our national security.

“If TikTok wants to remain in the United States long term, it’s time to sell so that Americans can continue to enjoy the platform without any manipulation from Communist China.”
